Mat to Saddle Pilates

Picture
We love our horses, don't we?  They work so hard to please us whether it's to carry us in the show ring for the finals or down the trail on a sunny day. They are amazing, graceful, strong athletes and we'll do anything for them, won't we?  We buy the best tack and feed, provide the best trainers, vets, farriers, chiropractors, and even massage therapists.  Whatever time, money and energy it takes, we get it done.  But let me tell you that the one thing you should be doing for your horse more often than not is ignored.   Working on your body will do more for your horse and more for you than anything else.  Life creates muscle imbalances in your body and being in the saddle can create even more imbalances.  This is much like any repetitive motion sport such as running, biking, rowing and golf, but in this case any muscle imbalances that you have can also affect your horse.

"The mind itself builds the body," Joseph Pilates once said.   Any successful athlete would agree.  In sports, "the zone" describes this mind-body connection.   By emphasizing complete concentration, proper breathing, and correct spinal and pelvic alignment, Pilates trains you to integrate mind and body in everything you do.  The principles of Pilates are, or should be, the defining principles of our riding practice.  The Pilates principles include awareness, balance, breath, concentration, centering, control, efficiency, flow, focus, precision, and harmony.  Using strength, balance, and feel, I'll give you an opportunity to have a clearer line of communication with your horse through your body.  The clinic provides information about Pilates and Pilates based work that will strengthen and lengthen muscles, help you become more fluid and balanced in your movement, become strong and at home in your core and improve your posture.  You'll have  more energy by learning how to recruit fewer muscles to do more work.  By educating and strengthening your body with our Pilates program, riding will be a more enjoyable experience for you and your horse.  By training and educating your body you can develop a soft feel, better carriage, and more intimate communication with your horse.  Go the extra mile in setting yourself apart from others and learn how to acquire the "posture" of a winner in the saddle!   Mat to Saddle Method provides a focused look at the muscles we use while riding our horses.

The benefits of Pilates are many. Regular practice will develope a strong core, thus flattening and firming the abdominal area, help build strength and lean muscles without bulking, heightens body awareness and coordination, promotes flexibility and agility, and teaches good posture and graceful movement.

Regardless of your focus the trainers for Mat to Saddle Method know that for the program to succeed it must create a balanced use of the body using muscles in a more synchronized and natural way.  The fundamentals of Pilates will be translated in your everyday life regardless of what you do.  Whether an athlete or bench warmer, limber or inflexible, and regardless of your age, the practice of Pilates will change the way you think and move.

This will translate to how you carry and present yourself to the world.  We are confident that this change is not only positive for you and your horse but is life altering.  Our passion in training comes from our desire to help you experience the life changing process that we have gone through ourselves with Pilates.  We want to prove to you that Pilates is so much more than just exercise!
